Volumetric mixers, also known as mobile mixers, have grown in popularity in recent years. The convenience and affordability of being able to mix the concrete right on site make them a great option for a variety of concrete applications. Unfortunately, placing concrete from a volumetric mixer has its own challenges. Perhaps the biggest challenge is false setting concrete. That’s why Fritz-Pak developed our innovative false set admixture, Water Conditioner. This product uses modern chemistry to create a unique solution for volumetric mixers across the country.
How Does this False Set Admixture Work?
False set is a premature hardening of the concrete. It occurs when the gypsum materials in the cement mix with the water and turn to plaster of paris. This problem is more common for concrete placed by volumetric mixers because the concrete is often not mixed long enough to break up the gypsum in the cement. Adding water conditioner to the water tank of the mobile mixer will neutralize the gypsum in the cement to keep it from becoming plaster of paris and thus maintain the plasticity of the concrete.
Benefits of a False Set Admixture
- No delay of concrete set time
- Reduction in lost concrete
- Increased efficiency at the job site
- Easy storage and transportation
Using a False Set Admixture with Other Concrete Admixtures
Fritz-Pak’s Water Conditioner is compatible with most other concrete admixtures, but it is important that all admixtures are dispensed into the mix separately. When adding this false set admixture to your volumetric truck, use one four-ounce bag for every 400 gallons of water to get the best results.
