If you want to get the perfect concrete finish on the hottest days on the job, then you need a finishing aid admixture like Fritz-Pak’s Control Finish. Control Finish offers the ability to maintain the workability of the surface layer of concrete when the sun is beating down. It comes packaged in two, nine-ounce water-soluble bags for ease of use. Spraying a thin layer across the slab can help protect your concrete finish and increase the aesthetic of your decorative, stamped, or even just broom-finished concrete work.
Why Use a Finishing Aid Admixture
On hot, windy days, the surface layer of the concrete loses a lot of water very quickly. This rapid evaporation forms a hard, dry crust. The crust tends to develop crazing, or spider-web cracks on the surface when you pass over it with your finishing tools. Applying a finishing aid admixture, such as Control Finish, slows down the rate of water loss and helps maintain the moisture on the top of the concrete. This prevents the crust from forming and allows you to produce a crack-free finish for your customers.
Finishing Aid Admixture vs Surface Retarders
The two most common types of finishing admixtures are finishing aids and surface retarders. Control Finish is a true finishing aid admixture. It is formulated to be worked into the concrete during the finishing process. Surface retarders, however, should never be worked into the concrete. These products create a thin film that holds the water in the concrete, allowing you to work in other sections of the project.
How to Use Control Finish
As stated earlier, Control Finish comes packaged in two pouches. Added one pouch to one and a half gallons of water covers 500 square feet of concrete. Both pouches can be dissolved in three gallons of water for 1,000 square feet of coverage. When using Control Finish, you place and screed the concrete as normal. Then you spray a thin layer on top of the concrete slab. And that’s it. Now you’re ready to start the finishing process.
